Famous South African Folk Tales, first published in 1968, with reprints in 1984 and 1993, boasts a brand-new look. Through the years, these ever popular stories have been cherished as part of the rich heritage of South African folklore. Besides new creations, stories were borrowed from Western Europe, Eastern cultures and the rest of Africa. The Eastern influence chiefly came from the Cape Malays, while the old San and Koikoi races and various black people represented Africa.
In this collection, we find the much loved Jackal and Wolf stories, Tortoise and Hare, Bluebottle and Bee, Till Owlglass, who loves to expose people’s weaknesses, and many more. Stories full of sparkle and wit to delight you and old- by master storyteller Pieter W. Grobbelaar, folklore. The exuberant art of Sean Vester captures the fun element of the stories.
