This book, this quartet of story-tellers, was first published in 1963 by Crown Publishers, New York, to be followed by the Heinemann Africa Series in 1965. Of the four contributions, two have passed on - Richard Rive(who also edited the collection), and Alex La Guma. The indomitable James Matthews and Alf Wannenburgh, veterans of South African writing, now see a new edition come to pass.
